Fictional Shorts

Never Never Land (2012)

A unique creative short. The film uses fantasy characters as a metaphor for our societies disinterest in helping the homeless.

Overall the film has a good pace and a strong sense of style to it. The gritty landscapes and architecture of match well with the tone of loss and urban decay. The writing itself is  minimalist, and the film really benefits from the smooth and well performed narration.

Conscription (2012)

Filmed in one shot, the short was produced for entry into the One Shot Movie Competition, for which it was shortlisted; and later went on to be screened at the One Take Film Festival in Croatia.

Working as a lighting technician, I actively helped to define the look and contribute where possible to defining the overall look of the film. The movie is overall well put together, well choreographed and does what it set out to do. However I do feel that the tension and form of the story was somewhat limited by the whole one shot element of the craft on display here. There is a somewhat rushed feeling to the action that stunts the potential to really draw out the dramatic tension in the actions that are unfolding here.

Im With You (2015)

Based on a Daily Mail article, I'm With You follows a young woman whose father passed away when she was young. However, knowing he was dying her father left a number of video recordings to help motivate, support and advise her during key moments of her life.

Overall the film is a bit clunky, with a kind of student film aura about it. The acting is good for the most part, although there are a few stilted moments in the piece. Visually there are some nicely shot sequences. The lighting and overall look of the film is fine, yet I can't help but feel the scenes in living room look somewhat flat: with a kind of studio / multi-cam set up not working to the scenes advantage.

Altogether it was a fun and ambitious project, but I'm not sure it entirely worked in the end.

Have You Met The Joneses - (Filmed in 2015) Coming Soon

A short mockumentary web series about a regular family, with an extremely extraverted aspiring actor father. As a camera operator I filmed various sections of the first few episodes and assisted in other aspects of the production in an uncredited capacity.

An interesting and well shot piece that should be released very soon. Altogether the film has a nice look to it. Although at times I can't help but feel that it could have been smoothed out with another draft of the script.
